Glass

Glass *

New modalities of working combined with time for reflection have provided space to shift the impetus of my practice from internal identity and eroticism towards intimacy and personhood reflected by others and the environments I immerse myself in. I’ve found myself cultivating a relationship with a seemingly sentient material mirroring a newly found romantic relationship with someone who now lives a 20 hour flight away.

The body of the glass pulled from the furnace. The skin developed as it settled into shape. The breath of life pushed into it to form not what I want, but what it needs. The end result not being the work tangibly but an exchange of knowledge, care, and warmth. This body of work not anly navigates a curious, experimental, and somewhat naive approach to glass making, but also the ways in which we meet material as we meet space and meet each other.

Collaboration in glass is one of the key tennants of the medium that kept me enticed with its potentiality. This work would not have come to fruition if it weren’t for the instruction of Nate Watson, Minami Oya, and Victoria Ahmadizadeh-Melendez or the assitance of my blow partners: Kenny Kay, Javier Vinuela, Sofia Paredes Velez, and Josie Lally, as well as the Ox-Bow glass staff. Thank you for your knowledge, trust, and friend-ship -- especially as my practice forays into a new material arena.
